Cowtown and Beyond...

Creephouse had an outstanding Saturday at the Cowtown Indie Comix Fest.

We sold quite a few copies of our Horror Comics Grandfather Bones and Spirits in the Well and made some great contacts. It was fun to see such talents as Stan Yan, Robert Elrod, Dan Crosier, Leila Del Duca and Angry Faerie's creator Scott Springer. We did a some teasing for our next big project "Never Send a Monster" and did one of my favorite thing which was to talk shop with other creators.

Coming down the pipe we have, of course, "Never Send a Monster" which will contain the three stories in the Monster trilogy which contains "Never Send a Monster", "Monsters Never Prosper" and "Never Make a Monster." Kevin Gentilcore and I both feel that this will be Creephouse's break out piece done in hardcover and in color. T shirts for this will be available in a few weeks and we're really excited about the whole project.

Also in progress is scripting and design work on The October Watch. Ohio artist Steven Fisher (of Crea8tive Differences) has been showing me some beautiful character sketches and bringing some great ideas to the table. We hope to do this as an annual graphic novel to be released in conjunction with Halloween.

Rumblings at Bluewater Comics still reveal to me that my story "Spirit Radio" is coming down the pipe in "Vincent Price Presents" Comics but I don't have a month or an issue number yet. It's a tale I've been waiting a long time to tell and i think it will have some appealing twists to it.

Kevin Gentilcore and I are also going to be releasing "Grandfather Bones" and "Spirits in the Well" compiled through Creator's Edge comics which is doing a lot of exciting stuff. Chuck Messinger has been pulling some truly innovative rabbits out of his hat and it's a great opportunity to be working with him.

Beyond that there is another project that I am in talks with the artist to be on board with his original concept that sounds like a chance to really work my character skills.

Sunday the 29th Dane Bernhardt, Genine Mix (of Mix101 in Denver) and I will be shooting the first video project for Nightmares Tickle Theater channel on Youtube. Quickly thereafter we hope to shoot the second video with Veteran Actor and Oscar winner Barron Christian in a chilling tale of supernatural visitation.

So as you can see I have a lot of things coming at you in the relative near future. I am thrilled to be working on every single one of them and we'll keep you posted as they are closer to release.

Project Updates

As you may imagine I usually have a few irons in the fire at any given moment, so to let you folks know what to keep your eyes peeled for here is the short list.

Kevin just hit the halfway mark in The Terrible Revenance of Grandfather Bones. This is part two of the piece we're doing with Creator's Edge Publishing along with Spirits in the Well. We're both looking forward to getting this creator owned property on the shelves.

I am working on a graphic novel script for a project called "The October Watch" about a group of monster hunters who protect the city of Silver Cross during October when the veil between the living and dead is at its thinnest. Brick Hellsmith leads this group which consists of a Frankenstein style monster called Manhaus, a shyster wizard Wodenstein, the mad scientist Dr. Bacon and his assistant "Igorotron" who is a robot built around the brain of his dead college room mate. I'm having a lot of fun writing this and there are laughs as well as chills as they go up against Brick's ex wife and the teen age shirtless vampires who claimed her as one of the undead.

Mea Tulpa is another of those projects that's been going on for a while because its got meter and pacing structure that is extremely important to do properly. It is the third in my Tulpa Trilogy after Never Send a Monster and Monsters Never Prosper.

I am in the queue with Blue Water Comics to do one of the upcoming "Vincent Price Presents" comics titled "Spirit Radio." I'm really proud of this comic and its old school Twilight Zone feel. It's got great atmosphere and a twist I'm hoping no one will see coming. I am also working another piece for Blue Water called "Keys to the Kingdom" which is sort of a monkey's paw style tale. Both will be BPP releases and I'm excited to get them out there!

"A Haunt of Shadows" is a indie horror script I wrote for Modern American Cinema run by Kristian Day. It's a period piece set in a Chicago mansion in the 60's full of horror, sorcery and ghosts. We're still waiting on a production date but so far it's all a go!

Nightmares Tickle theatre is also a go for its first short piece on Youtube, but we're waiting on clearance for a location approval at Double Daughters Tavern at 17th and Market st. Local DJ Genine Mix from Mix 100 will be the dramatic lead of this chilling vignette of the supernatural and tale of a wife and mothers loss.

There are other pieces in the works coming out further down the road but these are the projects you can be looking out for.

Thanks for your time and attention.

Don't let the Nightmares Tickle.

Comicfest 2010

Oh so many people filed through a tiny little hallway in the DTC Marriott this weekend. As a guy just starting out I am learning the love of the fan. As a guy who has lived in a few big cities and enters into frequent interaction with panhandlers I discovered it is a sense that transfers laterally to Convention trolls.

As well as signing autographs, discussing the industry and lots of indie comic shop talk I was also faced with extrapolating what the middle aged Scooby Doo gang would evolve into. I was told by a girl that the first caption box for Spirits in the Well was "amazing." The two girls dressed as the Silk Specter tied for first in my own mental "My Favorite Wedgie" contest. I spoke with Matt Fraction whose run on House of Mystery is just outstanding and I urge any of you to check it out.

I'm leaving you the link to some of the stills I took over the weekend. Thanks to Jason and the Starfest staff who were great and kept good humor the whole weekend.

Check out the teaser image of Grandfather Bones

Hot on the heels of having finished Creephouse's first piece "Spirits in the Well" Kevin is digging straight into our next piece "The Terrible Revenance of Grandfather Bones." Below is a link to the teaser image on his blog. Kevin has described his theme on this piece as "Old School EC Comics" homage to Creepshow.

Enjoy:

Nightmares Tickle Theater

So I recently won the HalloweenHootenany horror story contest on the PublisherDatabase.com which is my second year running. My prize for this year was a 1040 HD video camera and I have been thinking for some time about what I would like to do with video were I presented with the opportunity.

So now that this is a reality I am here to announce that on my Youtube Page I will be starting out Nightmares Tickle Theater. I am currently working on the first script which will be the first of at least three. These will be short dramatic pieces revolving around interviewing people who have had encounters with the paranormal and will essentially be debriefings of these events.

They will not likely come out in quick succession as I am also writing a couple Vincent Price Presents for Blue Water Comics, finishing the third installment in my Tulpa series to be illustrated by Kevin Gentilcore for Creative Edge Press, working on a pitch for SyFy channel and a couple other gems more in their infancy.

But I will update this as we get closer to production and look forward to sharing this with you all.

Starfest 2010

As I sit here looking at the blog title it feels a little futuristic to me.

As a kid 2000 always seemed like a distant future and now we're 10 years beyond. As far as I'm concerned after 2000 everything should be considered the future and I want to know why I don't have my own Jetsons flying car that folds into a briefcase.

At any rate, the subject of this blog being Starfest I will be there in attendance with Kevin Gentilcore my partner in our new Creephouse label where we will be selling a limited edition numbered and signed original work of Spirits in The Well. The brilliant and multi talented Daniel Crosier will be there no doubt with his wood burning tools that he uses to do some of the most mind blowing sequential illustrations you've ever seen.

We are but a small part of Starfest which sports not only the Comic Fest area where Kevin, Dan and I can be found in artists alley but also horror fest and Sci Fi fest. Lots of celebrities will be in attendance like Summer Glau of Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Marina Sirtis from Star Trek The Next generation and many others.

Check out the link below and come meet me in artists alley at Comic fest.

Who is this guy exactly?

I'm so glad you asked.

My name is William Tooker and I'm a speculative fiction writer working in film/video, short stories, comics and novels.

My first foray into comics was in a backup story for Distortions Unlimited #1. Through some editorial mishap my story is no longer in thatbook but my name remains in the credits. Currently I am writing 2 stories for Vincent Price Presents from Blue Water Comics.

I work frequently with Kevin Gentilcore principally on our own fledgling label "Creephouse" and we are also doing some stories with Chuck Messinger at Creative Edge Publishing.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates on upcoming projects and links to previews.
